How did the human species evolve?
The human species, Homo sapiens, evolved over a period of several million years through a process of biological and cultural evolution. Our lineage split off from the great apes around 7 million years ago, and over time, we developed a more upright, bipedal walking style and a larger brain. Around 2.5 million years ago, early hominins like Australopithecus began to make stone tools and use fire, and by around 300,000 years ago, our direct ancestors Homo erectus had evolved a larger brain and more advanced tools. Finally, modern humans with their larger brains and sophisticated culture emerged around 200,000 years ago in Africa, before eventually spreading across the globe and dominating the planet.
